Announcing a special crossover with MISKATONIC HIGH!
over 1 year ago – Thu, Nov 10, 2022 at 11:15:43 PM

Hello, fellow cultists!

I'm really excited today to announce that I've teamed up with Mike Shea and Ryan Mendoza at Miskatonic High for a special promotion: if you back both Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam and Miskatonic High #16 you'll receive a free bonus print by Ryan Mendoza featuring the characters from both comics!

Check it out:

It's also an homage to Justice League of America #21!

Miskatontic High is one of the most successful and popular comics on Kickstarter, and they've just launched their 16th issue today.

I'm personally a fan, which is probably obvious since I've had Ryan do the "Adventures into the Unknown" variant covers for both issues of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam. I even have a special Ryan Mendoza reward tier because I love his work so much!

And I know that some of you are also fans of Miskatonic High's fun and unique take on the Lovecraft mythos. So a crossover seemed like the perfect idea!

I'm really stoked to finally be able to announce this. I hope you like it, and I hope you'll consider checking out Miskatonic High #16 as well!

And who knows. Maybe if enough people dig it we'll have to reveal the story behind this image in a future comic book! 😉

Thanks everyone!

SLASHING PRICES! 🙂 Plus: Bixby Grant and Sacrifice!

Hello, fellow cultists!

Just a short update today to let you know that I have decided to lower the pledge amount on two of the big reward tiers: the Set of All 6 #2 Covers is now $79 instead of $99, and the Ultimate MEGA Bundle is now $149 instead of $199.

Additionally, I've also added more rewards to both tiers as well -- more on that in a moment. But first, I wanted to talk briefly about why I have lowered the cost of these pledge levels.

You know, times are tough, and they seem to be getting tougher. I recognize that people are having to tighten their belts, myself included. But for me, making comics isn't about making money. Lord knows I haven't made money on anything so far! 😂 No, it's about sharing these stories and art and the fun of comics with all of you. I really want to get these comics out to everyone who wants them! And I'd rather take a bit of a loss getting comics out to everyone who wants them than not get the stories out at all. In fact, I set my project goal with this in mind, as the $2900 goal won't actually cover my costs on this issue. But that's okay, because I believe in the comic and want to share it with all of you!

So I have decided to drop the cost of those higher reward tiers, and add extra bonus rewards to both, in the hope that it will allow more people who want to get all the variants to be able to do it. 👍

With that in mind, I also added the set of 5 prints for issue #1 as a bonus reward for the Set of All 6 #2 Covers, meaning it now includes not just all six variants for issue #2, but also the set of 15 trading cards as well as the sets of 5 7x10 prints for both issues #1 and #2, for $79.

And for the Ultimate MEGA Bundle, I added a copy of the Crimebuster 80th Anniversary 100-Page Giant Special, so that reward tier now includes all 6 covers for issue #1, all 6 covers for issue #2, The Crimebusters #1-4, the Crimebuster 80th Anniversary Special, both sets of prints, and the set of trading cards, for $149.

Thanks very much for all the support so far everyone, I really appreciate it very much, and I hope this helps some of you be able to get all the rewards you want! 🤗

Tomorrow I'll be back with a BIG announcement about a very special cross-promotion I'm doing with a wildly popular Kickstarter comic series, so stay tuned!

Kickstarter Spotlight

Just two titles today to share with you, but they are two super cool titles that I think you'll find as interesting as I do: Bixby Grant, Private Eye and Sacrifice!

Bixby Grant, Private Eye

Those of you who have read my series The Crimebusters know how much I like supernatural mystery detective adventures. So it will come as no surprise that I'm recommending you check out Bixby Grant, Private Eye!

Bixby Grant is a private eye who has been cursed and turned into a living mummy! But that also makes him the perfect sleuth to unravel a mystery involving magic and werewolves in the dark heart of the city.

Why does creator Patrick Coyle call this "Hellboy meets The Shadow"? Check it now to find out!

Sacrifice #1-4

Normally I either write up my own description of the comic I'm telling you about, or let the creator do it themselves. But this time around, I thought I'd do something a little bit different and share a glowing online review about the magical horror comedy Sacrifice #1-4. Here's what Rob Lake at Geek Culture Reviews had to say:

"Sacrifice is a comic that I'm glad I read. From the opening page, there's plenty of world-building and a wonderful display of art and colour work. Each page turn introduces you to more of this world and the vibrant characters who live within it. Considering this is also the opening chapter in a 6-part series, there's already enough story here to keep Sacrifice going well past that number."

Check it out for yourself now!

New add-ons! New pledge levels! 👾 Plus: Vampire Macabre and more!
over 1 year ago – Thu, Nov 10, 2022 at 11:14:18 PM

Hello, fellow cultists!

I'm excited to announce that we have just hit 60% funded! And with three weeks left to go, I'm very optimistic that we can make it to the final goal.

I also wanted to tease that this coming Tuesday, I will be revealing an exciting cross-promotion with one of your favorite Kickstarter comics (and one of mine), so stay tuned for that!

And today I have the usual batch of cool comics to tell you about in today's Kickstarter Spotlight as well. But before I get to that, I have also added several new add-ons and pledge levels I wanted to tell you about, including one where I will become your new best friend!

First, the add-ons:

I personally am a fan of the propaganda poster variant covers for both issues of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, so I decided it would be fun to have the available as fridge magnets! Both the "Cthulhu Wants You" and the "Keep Calm and Cthulhu Fhtagn" covers are now available as 2x3 inch fridge magnets, for $8 each, or $13 for the set of two.

I also have added Sketch Cards! These are the same size as trading cards (and those of you who have supported my previous campaigns know how much I love trading cards), but they are blank. So I will sketch for you on the blank card one character of your choice -- any character at all, from my comics or for manywhere else -- for $5. Unlike most add-ons, which are U.S. only due to shipping weight considerations, the sketch cards are available worldwide.  [Details: The sketch will be a black sharpie outline, colored in with colored pencils; the card stock may be slightly thinner than a trading card, more like thick construction paper].

I hope you dig these! And as always, if you have any more ideas of things you might want as rewards, let me know and I'll see if it's possible 🙂

And now, the new reward tiers! These are all at the higher end of things, but hopefully there's some bang for the buck. 💥💵

First, I've added a Retailer Bundle. I've had a couple retailers inquire about getting a bundle tier. Of course, these only make sense financially if there's really a large quantity involved. So I decided to just make a reward tier with, you guessed it, a large quantity! This reward tier gets you, the retailer, 10 copies of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1, and 10 copies of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #2. That's a total of 20 comics for $120, which includes shipping.

Next up, I've added a Creator Package! There's nothing I love more than celebrating and uplifting the indie comics community, especially here on Kickstarter. So with this reward level, I will help you make your comic, whether it's your first, or just the latest in your burgeoning self-publishing empire. First, I will draw a cover for you. Secondly, I will do a story consultation with you, where I read the materials you have prepared for your story (either an outline or a script or even just notes if you haven't gotten that far) and then have a 60 minute face-to-face meeting with you via Zoom to go over the story. And finally, once your comic is published, I will help promote it by shouting it out on my various channels. All this for $350. Hopefully we can make some comics together! 🙂🤘

And finally, I could be mistaken, but I do believe that we might have just become best friends.

In the new You're My Best Friend reward tier, you get to learn all about me by receiving a copy of every single comic I've ever worked on. This includes every single variant, including all the sold out variants I've done -- I will be pulling these out of my own personal collection -- as well as a couple comics published by other people that I contributed to. Additionally, you will receive a CGC 9.8 Signature Series sketch cover, by me, homaging the classic cover of Archie #50. Plus, you'll become an official Junior Crimebuster and receive the Fan Club Membership Kit. And I will also have a 30 minute Zoom chat with you about comics, because that's what besties do.

All of this for $450!

Here's a list of all the swag you will receive - note that the Crimebusters variants include the sold out Kickstarter exclusive variants for each issue, as well as the sold out first printings for issue #1, plus a blank sketch cover:

  • All 6 covers of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1
 • All 6 covers of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #2
 • All 8 covers of The Crimebusters #1
 • All 5 covers of The Crimebusters #2
 • All 4 covers of The Crimebusters #3
 • All 4 covers of The Crimebusters #4
 • both covers of The Crimebuster 80th Anniversary Special
 • Boston Powers #3 (featuring an Earth Boy story written by me)
 • Boston Powers #6 (featuring an Earth Boy story written by me)
 • The Crimebusters #1 sketch cover by me homaging Archie #50 in CGC 9.8
 • A 30 minute zoom call!
 • The Fan Club Membership Kit

Here's the CGC 9.8 SS Sketch Cover you will receive:

See you on Tuesday for the next big announcement... bestie!

Kickstarter Spotlight

This time around I have three super cool projects currently live on Kickstarter that you won't want to miss: Vampire Macabre, BEYONDERS, and Sleepwalkers

Vampire Macabre

You know what's cooler that one awesome indie comic? A bunch of awesome indie comics!

Yes, Frank Forte and the gang at Asylum Press is bringing you not one, not two, but several -- yes, several -- vampire themed horror comics for your reading pleasure, including one featuring art by the legendary Tim Vigil!

There are so many cool comics by so many cool creators that I can't possibly spotlight all the coolness, so I suggest you check this one out for yourself. But here's a tease:

BEYONDERS

And now for something completely different, but super cool looking, it's BEYONDERS. I'll let the creator describe this one himself, because I'm not sure my words will suffice:

"A cyberpunk fantasy comic series set in an alternate universe: the Argi Lux System a dystopian land filled with samurai warriors, killer droids, and bio-enhanced people. The story we present offers an unstoppable roller coaster of action, drama, and thrilling character arcs, developed through pages with dynamic panels and amazing artwork. It has everything you would love in a story like this but also has katana fighting, inter-dimensional travels, aliens, and the path of Bushido. You know, all the good stuff."

You can check it out here!

Sleepwalkers vol. 1

If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that being an adult isn't always everything it's chalked up to be. A lot of times your dreams don't come true.

But in Sleepwalkers, Faith Wilson's dreams do come. Not her metaphorical dreams about where she wants to be in life -- those are all coming up fail. But her literal dreams are coming true, because when she sleeps, she becomes a real life superhero, allowing her subconscious to do all the things she can't do when she's awake.

I think it's a pretty cool premise! And you can give it a look now while it's still live!

You Asked For It: An "Incredible" new add-on! Plus: CRIT!
over 1 year ago – Fri, Nov 04, 2022 at 03:03:50 PM

Hello, fellow cultists!

Today I'm bringing you a new add-on, which is also an old add-on.

Yes, by popular demand, I am making available as an add-on 2 - and ONLY 2 - copies of the hit Incredible Cthulhu variant cover for issue #1.

Let's take another look at it!

To quote the Kool-Aid Man, "oooohhhhh yeaaaaaaaah!"

This variant cover was limited to only 25 copies printed. For a full accounting: one copy belongs to artist Jay Piscopo and I kept 4 copies for my personal collection. Of the remaining 20 copies, 18 have been sold, leaving just 2 left. Those 2 copies are currently available only in the Ultimate Mega Bundle reward tier (which includes all six covers for both issues #1 and #2 as well as a set of The Crimebusters #1-4 and more goodies).

However, I have had a number of people ask about the availability of this variant cover. So with that in mind, I have decided to take 2 copies out of my personal collection and make them available as add-ons. They are $35 each, and available only in the U.S.

As with all the comics I publish, I'm very firm on the announced print runs for the variant covers, so there will never be another printing of this cover - it will always be limited to just those 25 copies only.

So if you happen to dig this one, please consider picking it up now, because once they are gone, they will stay gone!

Sneak Teaser

I am also working on some more new add-ons, which may or may not include fridge magnets, stickers, and sketch cards. I'm hoping to announce the new add-ons in the next update on Sunday,  so if there's something you'd like to see, let me know!

Also, I'm working on figuring out a retail bundle and perhaps a couple other higher level reward tiers, which will also be announced next time!

Kickstarter Spotlight

This time around I have three more cool Kickstarter projects to share with you that I think you might find interesting. And there's more than a little bit of fantasy this time around, thanks to CRIT, Lost Between Worlds, and We Suck at Comics!

CRIT

At this risk of revealing just how unbelievably old I am, I first discovered Dungeons & Dragons in the halcyon summer of 1980. So it's fair to say that comics based on role playing games are right up my alley -- comics like CRIT!

CRIT has a really fun backstory: it's based on an actual campaign that a group of gamers have been running for over a decade. In the game, and in the comic, instead of playing your classic fantasy characters, they are instead roleplaying superheroes.

Superheroes and Dungeons & Dragons together?! Sign you up!

Lost Between Worlds

Want your fantasy with a little more... fantasy? Then you might want to check out the newest issue of Lost Between Worlds!

Creator Edwin Decastro brings us this story about a Grim Reaper who has 24 hours to stop the apocalypse, while also trying to deal with an unexpected challenge: she can't reap the soul of her next target because the person has Disassociative Identity Disorder, and shares a body with several other distinct souls.

It's an intriguing premise with fun art. You can check it out here to learn more!

We Suck at Comics

Here's an interesting anthology with a unique premise: it's all about rejection.

You know what they say: it's not about rejection, it's about how you handle rejection. And the team at Wayward Raven Media decided to handle their own rejections in the comic world by putting together an anthology of stories about rejection, all by creators who have had stuff rejected in the past.

There's a lot of great talent waiting to be discovered in this one, so check it out here. 🙂

Spotlight on artist Jay Piscopo! Plus: No Spell Lasts Forever, and more!
over 1 year ago – Wed, Nov 02, 2022 at 09:04:35 PM

Hello, fellow cultists!

Today I wanted to spend a moment spotlight the artist for Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, Jay Piscopo!

Jay has done the art for both issues of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, and he has a unique style that combines golden age slam-bang action with a freeflowing animation storyboard look that really injects every panel with a ton of motion and life.

Jay also has a unique color sensibility which people seem to dig! Which is great, because I happen to be color blind 😆 so when it comes to the color palette for Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam -- or the art in general -- I've made almost no tweaks or changes at all. I think in the second issue I only made adjustments to a single panel!  The result is that you will be getting 100% of Jay's vision for what the book should look like.

We're not afraid of color!

As a comic writer, I'm a big believer in letting the artist tell the story in the best way they can, so I'm excited for you to see how Jay has decided to interpret this story!

I also wanted to share with you an interview that I did with Jay back when we put out the first issue which really gets into Jay's process. If you haven't seen it before, you might get a kick out of it! Here's another look at our discussion of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1:

As always, thanks so much for the support, I very much appreciate it -- and I'm sure Jay does too!

Kickstarter Spotlight

This time around I'm excited to bring you three more cool Kickstarter projects that are live right now, including a weird western, a strange sci-fi tale, and an urban fantasy noir that you won't want to miss: No Spell Lasts Forever, Jake Sunrise, and Riot Earp!

No Spell Lasts Forever

First, let me say right up front that when creator Sarah Cooke says that No Spell Lasts Forever, she really means it: this Kickstarter ends tomorrow!! So if you think it sounds interesting, there's no time to lose!

And I think some of you will find this one intriguing. Here's the logline: "It is a noir urban fantasy about a magic user named Rosette Diamante who, after meeting an untimely death, makes a deal with the devil for a second chance at life. Her task? To corrupt one truly good soul."

It's also got a really cool variant cover designed to look like a vintage movie poster. And you know how much I like my vintage poster variant covers! 😁 Check it out now... because tomorrow may be too late!!

"The Big Sleep" poster homage!

Riot Earp Special

Turning from magic to sci-fi, it's the new Riot Earp Special from the creative team of Ron Marz and Darryl Banks!

If that creative team sounds familiar to you, it's probably because they worked on Green Lantern together back in the 90s and co-created Kyle Rayner! But now they're following their passion and joining the ranks of Kickstarter creators in this special which also features a backup story from Riot Earp creator and regular writer Michael S Katz.

So what's it about? Well, it s a sci-fi story with one of the most unique descriptions I've seen in a long time: "Action, humor, sex, and politics merge in a futuristic take on law enforcement. It's Han Solo meets CNN!"

If you want to know what happens when Han Solo meets CNN, you'll have to check out the Kickstarter here!

The Return of Jake Sunrise

Finally, I wanted to share a project that really lights up my Christmas tree: The Return of Jake Sunrise.

This is about a legendary bounty hunting vaquero operating in a weird west of myth and magic. And, oh yeah: he may also be a werewolf!

One of my favorite comics of all time is Jonah Hex, especially the original tales back in the 1970s series Weird Western. So this is a project that really tickles my fancy on a personal level.

If you're into weird westerns too, then you owe it to yourself to check out The Return of Jake Sunrise!
